Course Maps for the Kendra Chiota Payne Memorial Triathlon & Duathlon

The DESOTO SPORTS swim course consists of a 0.5 mile ocean swim starting at Campus Point Beach, a public access beach located adjacent to UCSB's east campus. The swim course is a point-to-point swim, with entrance and exit on a sandy beach. After exiting the water participants will ascend the beach access stairway to the transition area. The ocean water is generally quite chilly this time of year, so wetsuits are strongly recommended. (If water temperatures are below 56 degrees Fahrenheit wetsuits will be MANDATORY).
The SANTA BARBARA RUNNING DUATHLON FIRST RUN LOOP consists of a 1-loop run over a rolling 1.5 mile course, running clockwise along the bluffs of UCSB next to the ocean. The course then turns right to follow the perimeter of the lagoon before returning to the transition area. This run loop will give racers a preview of the longer second run leg to come.

The HAZARD'S CYCLESPORT bike course consists of a 16 mile loop through the City of Goleta and Santa Barbara County. The first 5 miles of the course are on a bike path that is closed to vehicle traffic, but open to pedestrians and other cyclists. The next 8 miles are on a counter-clockwise loop that is open to traffic with a few slightly rolling hills, the final 3 miles are back on the bike path that leads the participants through campus and to the transition area. Throughout the course there are a number of sections that are comprised of both fast and slow S-curves and turns that will require caution and care. These areas are well-marked, however, a pre-race ride of the course is highly recommended. The majority of the bike course is flat and very fast. Please use extreme care at all intersections. Although all major intersections will be controlled by Goleta or County Police, the bike route will take riders through a number of uncontrolled residential areas.
The FINAL SECTION OF THE BIKE COURSE takes racers through the UC Santa Barbara campus. The route has been changed from previous years to be much safer and tree root free. Please look over the map to be familiar with the course come race day, volunteers will also be present at all major turns during this section

The SANTA BARBARA RUNNING run course consists of a 1-loop run over a rolling 3.1 mile course, running clockwise along the bluffs of UCSB next to the ocean. This course serves as both the run portion of the triathlon and the final run of the duathlon. The course transitions from pavement to loose dirt and sand to hard packed trails around the lagoon and has a section of single-track path before the first mile. This may likely be the most scenic and beautiful oceanfront run course that you will race on this year.

The TRANSITION AREA is in a grassy area across from the parking lot previously used as the transition area. Overgrown bluff-top vegetation has been removed and now this area over-looking the ocean swim can provide a beautiful central location for family and friends to view the entire swim. Please familiarize yourself with the flow-through configuration of the Transition area. Additionally, there will be no entry without your race numbers clearly visible and bike numbers must match bib numbers to remove your equipment after the race. No exceptions.

>> Bike course is subject to any changes dictated by the City of      Goleta for safety concerns.

        Have a great race!
